AQK Change Management - Executive Coaching

Why Have a Coach?

  • Many senior executives achieve their management positions through mastery of a specialist area and have had little opportunity to learn the skills of leadership and team development required to successfully lead a business.
Coaching provides a very effective route to safely develop Leadership and Management skills.
  • Many senior executives who have used business school programmes, found that they were designed to cover a full spectrum of skills and that therefore there was some duplication of learning they already had, which was wasteful.
Coaching addresses the issues which they or their own Leader wish to work on in a way which is specifically tailored for them.
  • Leaders in many fields have personal coaches, not just sportsmen. They have a coach to challenge them to achieve results they are capable of but had not believed they were capable of delivering.
It is a sign of strength to know when you need help.

What is Coaching?

  • Prior to Coaching objectives will be agreed between the Client and the Coach, which are, and remain confidential between them. Objectives are also agreed between the Client and the Sponsor, usually their Boss, and the Coach.
  • An agreed number of 2 hour sessions, usually 6 to 8
  • Each session will form a step towards preparing the Client to meet their objectives.†
  • Each session ends with the Client making commitments to achieve goals agreed before the next session.
  • The Sponsor is asked to observe whether there are visible changes in the performance of the client, which will be reviewed with the Coach half way through and at the end of the sessions.
  • The Coach is committed to ensuring that the agreed objectives are met by the Client. The Coach will therefore challenge the client and push them by asking the questions which will enable the Client to achieve the goals.

What Coaching is not

  • Coaching is not expensive. It is highly cost effective
  • An easy solution for the Client, they will be really challenged.
  • It is not a prop for the ineffective.
  • The Coach does not set out to train the Client, although inevitably they will learn from the Coach's experience.

Key Benefits

  • Coaching results in agreed goals being met.
  • Coaching is highly cost effective. The material used is specifically designed for each client and there is no wastage.
  • Coaching is a highly effective use of the Client's time. Coaching takes place at a time and location they choose. Unexpected issues can cause the Client to need to re-arrange an appointment. This can be done within the agreed cost.
  • The confidence of the Client and the impact on their own and their team's performance will quickly make this a highly effective investment.
